Transformational Leadership for Racial Equity Institute

With an understanding that transformational change takes time, Racing to Equity offers a 6-month Transformational Leadership Institute. This program's broader outcomes are:

  • Building capacity to effectively and sustainably work to drive institutional change in your organization/institution to ensure justice and fairness.
     

  • Learning the skills necessary to dismantle institutional and structural barriers in your organization/institution.
     

  • Developing a sustainable network of leaders with a shared analysis to advance justice and fairness for systems change across your organization/institution by creating and operationalizing a shared value system.
     

  • Cross-pollinating ideas and developing intentional practices to thrive as leaders for justice and fairness: managing personal vulnerabilities, caring for and honoring our personal well-being, and sustaining your courageous spirit.

Session 1

OBJECTIVES

  1. Set the tone of excellence and leadership of self-accountability as members of an institution to advance justice and fairness.

  2. Build an authentic community of vulnerability, accountability, and belonging colleagues.

  3. Begin building a collective understanding of institutional/structural barriers as the foundation for developing a justice and fairness analysis to advance justice and fairness

  4. Practice interrupting internalized oppression through affinity group caucusing.

Session 2

OBJECTIVES

  1. Continue building an authentic community of vulnerability, accountability, and belonging.

  2. Gain an understanding of the function of power structures within institutions to dismantle systemic barriers while building an awareness of internalized oppression and how it manifests in our leadership.

  3. Develop a shared common vocabulary to strengthen the building of a collective justice and fairness analysis.

  4. Gain knowledge about the foundational principles of Transformational Leadership.

  5. Practice interrupting internalized oppression through affinity group caucusing.

Session 3

OBJECTIVES

  1. Continue building an authentic community of vulnerability, accountability, and belonging.

  2. Apply gained knowledge of the foundational tenants of Transformational Leadership.

  3. Identify your organization's/institution's stages of development in becoming a multicultural organization through the use of Crossroads Organizational Continuum Tool.

  4. Identify and develop your “Why” for Transformational Leadership for justice and fairness.

  5. Learn and apply national best practice frameworks to dismantle institutional barriers.

  6. Practice interrupting internalized racial oppression through affinity group caucusing.

Session 4

OBJECTIVES

  1. Continue building an authentic community of vulnerability, accountability, and belonging.

  2. Explore, discuss, and utilize they key strategies of Adaptive Leadership.

  3. Identify and counteract individuals' hidden commitments that are currently thwarting the advancement of our Transformational Leadership.

  4. Introduce Transformational Leadership Strategy Chart to begin to identify areas of opportunity to dismantle systems of oppression and marginalization within your organization/institution.

  5. Practice interrupting internalized racial oppression through affinity group caucusing.

Session 5

OBJECTIVES

  1. Continue building an authentic community of vulnerability, accountability, and belonging.

  2. Create a Transformational Leadership Strategy Chart to develop a set of strategic goals to intentionally advance justice and fairness within your organization/institution.

  3. Identify and engage in practices to sustain and honor our well-being and courageous spirit.

  4. Practice interrupting internalized racial oppression through affinity group caucusing.

Session 6

OBJECTIVES

  1. Continue building an authentic community of vulnerability, accountability, and belonging.

  2. Review knowledge and strategies gained from participation in sessions 1-5.

  3. Cross pollinate knowledge; contribute to each other's and share Transformational Leadership Strategy Charts, "Where I am from" poems, "Why" statements, and plan for honoring our well-being and courageous spirit.

  4. Introduce additional tools and resources to sustain your Transformational Leadership.

  5. Practice interrupting internalized racial oppression through affinity group caucusing.

  6. Express gratitude and appreciation for cohort members' participation, engagement, vulnerability, authenticity, commitment, and brilliance to positively transform the world.
